A Texas Rock LegacyBUSHBULLIT is a nickname for Armadillo, which has been a symbol for Texas music for years. It brings back memories of the Armadillo Headquarters in Austin, Texas in the early 70's. Formed in 1976, BUSHBULLIT first performed at Inza's Lonesome Coyote Saloon, in Corpus Christi, Texas . In the early 70's, 0.B. Gonzalez, lead guitarist and vocalist, found early success in a band called Apple which recorded and produced two singles which were regional hits in Houston, San Antonio & South Texas. Bushbullit's music is made by O.B., Eddie Saenz on the bass and Mike Collins drums.
Their nightly repertoire includes tributes to Southern Rock Bands like ZZ Top, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Fabulous T-Birds, Johnny Winter, Freddie King, Willie Dixon, Delbert McClinton, Allman Bros., Marshall Tucker and Lynyrd Skynrd. Other Classic rock includes the music of Jimi Hendrix, Cream, George Thorogood, Creedence, Bob Seger, "Jim and Van Morrison." BUSHBULLIT continues a legacy and tradition started long ago. This synergistic alliance of Texas Rock and Blues musicians collectively represents the dynamic make up and sensational sounds of the South Texas' best kept secret, BUSHBULLIT. This coalition of musicians proved to be a melding of talent that elevated BUSHBULLIT into a league of their own. For years BUSHBULLIT has continued to make their presence known on the South Texas music scene playing local venues such as Executive Surf Club, Cassidys Irish Pub, The Mug Room, The 19th Hole in Beeville, The Lighthouse in Padre Island, The Havana Club, San Patricio Rattle Snake Races, Bayfest, Brewster's Street Icehouse, Concrete Street, The High Chaparral & Biker Rallies for The Gypsies, Thunder Riders and CC Bikers Association. They have their own brand of original Texas Rock and Roll as they go "Slidin' Thru Texas." In most places they play classic rock & blues. They will play whatever the crowd wants to hear sometimes without rehearsal, "just wing it boys."
The history and legacy of Bushbullit starts in 1976 with Kerry Patton on bass/vocals, "Lucky" Lee Holcolm on drums and George Crawford on the fiddle and O.B. on guitar/vocals. Many years later in 1988 Walter Presley and Billy Cartier joined O.B. in BUSHBULLIT and played together for 13 years. After several band member changes the winds of change placed O.B. Gonzalez, Doc DeAlcala and Eddie Saenz together. David "Doc" DeAlcala and O.B had played the Cannery club house gig in Corpus Christi in the late 1980's, an unexpected event caused the passing of David "Doc" Dealcala suddenly in April 2005 which left the band at a loss of a an incredible drummer and a close and dear friend. In June 2005, Mike Collins a friend of Doc's came in one night and when BUSHBULLIT needed his help he stepped up to the bandstand without rehearsal and started playing steady with the band. At the end of the year in 2005, Eddie Saenz, O.B.'s nephew left the band after a two year stint and Sam Stephens covered the bass duties. After a year Eddie Saenz, bass player and vocalist returned to the band in January of 2007. Contact O.B.
